So I was up late last night, didn’t feel good, so I sat at the computer scouring the interwebs for something that would catch my eye and spark my creativity. I was slightly disheartened on Thursday when I went to the market and saw someone selling Halloween lantern boxes, mine were different, but still. That means I have to come up with something different.
In my search I came across a lot of things dealing with coffins and Halloween and even some coffin lantern boxes. The light bulb went on and I set about designing my own to make.
The plan was simple, I would use some hardboard since I have a literal shit ton of it at my disposal… it was supposed to be for the ceiling inside the workshop but I still have to run the fuct work and get the central heat and AC hooked up so the hardboard has been sitting. Using the hardboard I would cut out a front and back piece using the CNC. This gives a nice clean cut and only requires very minor cleanup leaving more time for the details.
Using Photoshop followed by InkScape I was able to create my gCode files and out to the shop I went. Here’s the pics I made and used to do this with.

As you can see it’s really nothing to complicated. There’s a front a back as well as a side piece to be cut from whatever I can get to build it up thick enough to allow for a tea light to be put in through the little opening in the back.

So there’s what I’ve made so far, you can see the “fuzzies” left on the little hatch cover for the back, that’s all the cleanup there is really and it comes right of with a pass or two of 100g sandpaper.
The next step will be to most likely thicken the frame of the coffin, then give it another try and see where I get after that. I’m also not sure if I should invert the cutout and like in the picture above, have the hand removed leaving more of the hardboard on the front. We shall see what tomorrow brings, still not feeling all that great but I do plan to do some work with my horses tomorrow as well.
