Woodworking

Here’s the place to find what I have dealing with the tools, tips, resources, templates, supplies, and more. I’ll try to break things down and keep it neat but this is a huge category and my hybridized workshop makes use of both old hand tools and new power tools as well as everything in between.

Exotic and Specialty Wood Links

I know firsthand what it’s like to want some good…. wait a sec, I’m not going to finish that sentence… Here’s some links where you can find different species of wood to work with. Down here where I live we have pine and pine and occasionally oak as well as cedar, most of which isn’t the greatest to work with but it gets the job done.

Sometimes you can also find specialty woods on Amazon and eBay that are just the right size for a project. I’m still trying to figure out how damn near every workshop has “scrap walnut” just laying around… go watch some YouTube videos and you’ll see what I mean lol.

Hand Plane Lines – Series

What follows are some of the hand plane lines/series that I’ve come across in my research or purchases. I’ve tried to add a little snippet of history for each entry below based on what I could find on the interwebs from RELIABLE resources. I am also trying to include measurements for the body and irons on these, and it appears I also need to include the width of the bodies themselves as that is what you most commonly see in places like eBay so it can get somewhat confusing when trying to track something down for a collection.

As for my collection, if it is in BOLD or BOLD and HYPERLINKED than I own it and have one. The link will take you to my restoration page for that particular plane which will have pictures on the plane. Should be somewhat useful in identifying some of these “off” brand series, especially the ones that come up for auction as “unbranded” but to the trained eye you can pick out what they are.

Don’t worry, there will be much more to come, just have to start somewhere.
