Scrapwood Christmas Trees

So being out of work because they won’t let me do light duty since it doesn’t exist where I work, I’ve been sitting here mostly idle for the most part. Those of you that know me, also know that I can not just sit still, I have to be 20 things at once and going mach 5 to boot.

I happened to watch some videos last week and got inspired to go out in the shop and see what I had for scrap wood… surprisingly a lot !! I even have scrap walnut !!! Now I know how everyone else has scrap walnut for projects lol.

One of the videos was basically, what can you do with scrap wood and make money. My solution was these trees. They stand about 4 feet tall and have a base made from a coffee table leg, the rest is pretty much just strips or wood I had left over from my shop walls or tongue and groove that I have no idea where it came from.

Pretty neat to build and everyone loves them so far. I’ve got a lot of interest in them and already have people wanting me to make them one. Here’s pics of the first two trees, hopefully tomorrow I can get out in the shop and get back to work. Today I had physical therapy and it really took its toll on my today… I’m pushing through the pain, trying to get back to “normal” so I can go back to work.

I have to say it was quite refreshing to get out in the shop and get covered head to toe in manglitter. I was able to use mainly my hand tools to get the work done and I think you can see my transitional plane I was using. Last night I destroyed my router table so I had to fix that and was using my Japanese plane to help level things out, then once I got the bit tight in the chuck I was back at it and got the second tree above, the one with the cool tongue and groove, mostly finished. Right now it’s soaking up the Howard’s and I need to add the start and base to it and I think it has a home already as well, not sure as this has all taken off like crazy.

It’s been taking me a lot longer to get things like this done because I still do not have 100% use of my left shoulder, can’t lift more than about 2lbs with that arm, and yeah, it’s still a hot mess. But that’s what I’ve been working on in between other little projects. Big thing right now is 3D printing tanks and aircraft for Team Yankee which I think I might try to get a game or two in next week.
