The Elephant on the Web: TEMU

So yeah, what’s all the buzz about this company offering products at insanely low prices with free shipping, extra items, and discounts out the wazoo? Here’s the site: https://www.temu.com

Well in a nutshell TEMU is essentially Wish 2.0 and operates much the same. One of the biggest differences that I have noticed personally is that my TEMU orders arrive in about 5 days as opposed to months waiting on Wish orders to possibly arrive.

Let’s answer the big glaring question everyone wants the answer to even though it’s obvious. Is TEMU a Chinese company? Yes it is. They do have holdings in Boston which is where most of your orders will come from implying that they ship all kinds of stuff to Boston, sell it, ship it, and that’s why it doesn’t take months to get your stuff.

So it’s a Chinese company, what exactly does that mean ??? It means you might be contributing to child labor, sweat shops, slave labor, intellectual property theft, cheap knock off products, etc.. But stop and think about it for a moment, especially the next time you go to a big box store, look at the products and see where they’re made then do a little research. I’m not going to drop a lot of names and cause a lot of problems, but there is this process where certain components are made in other countries like China, shipped to the United States, and then assembled so they can carry the “Made in USA” moniker. So just because you’re buying something that’s “Made in the USA”, you could still be buying Chinese.

Right now there is a literal crap load of videos on YouTube of people unboxing and testing their purchases from TEMU. The results are really interesting for most of them. On one hand you might get a product that just blows your mind and you’re ecstatic about it, but you could also get some cheap piece of junk. One thing that several of these videos has tried was a protractor/ruler thing and all of them arrived bent like a banana. Which brings me to my next point about TEMU. DO YOUR OWN RESEARCH !!! If you see it on TEMU then go to Amazon and search for it, compare prices, compare manufacturers, read the reviews. I’m going to come right out and say “You’re an idiot if you don’t”. If something seems to good to be true, it probably is. This means you’re not going to get high end tablets, laptops, drones, or anything else like that for $5.00, it’s not going to happen. Clothing is also hit and miss on TEMU and there’s a LOT of people who get the sizing wrong which is perhaps the number one complaint about Chinese clothing no matter where you order it from.

I personally don’t order using the phone app. Lot of people complain that the Chinese are tracking you, which is probably true. They want to know everything about you, your habits, what you like, what you don’t like, what you buy on other sites, etc.. If you notice, a lot of the apps you download ask you to give them permissions for this or that, so it’s not just a TEMU thing. Use the app or don’t, that’s all up to you. I just don’t use it because everything is so small on my phone and I’m getting old so yeah, I’ll stick to the interwebs thank you. I have a hard enough time with sausage fingers as it is.

So coming up probably in the next week or so I will do my own video and tests of products I have ordered and received from TEMU. Maybe I’ll make another order as well and we can just have a big old fashioned unboxing and review party along with the other stuff I’ve ordered.

Just to be clear, I am purchasing things with my own money. TEMU does have a program where they will give you like $300 worth of products to review, it’s tempting and I might do that in the future, but I don’t need it. When I post links those will be affiliate links so yeah, I might get a few bucks here and there which will go right back into stuff for the videos and site, so just to be clear, I don’t need their money and will continue to give 100% honest reviews and impressions of the products I buy from TEMU or anywhere else for that matter.
