So I decided to start a new series here on the site and put together a collection of videos and tutorials on how to do different things, this week we’ll focus on DIY Wooden Coasters.
Wooden coasters can be made from a variety of woods, hard and soft. They’re something just about every household in the world has and they’re very useful when you need to set a drink down on your nice new table or to even use as trivets near the stove. You can go out and buy lumber to make them, but most of the time these can be made with scrap wood you already have laying around… if you don’t have any scrap wood, go snag some pallets. You don’t have to use high end exotic woods to make these, sometimes the most eye catching designs are those made with the most common woods just arranged differently.
One of the great things about items like wooden coasters is that they’re a “small”. Smalls are literally little items with a high profit, most often times because there is zero cost involved. Using scrap lumber from your shop or pallets means all you’ve invested is some sweat equity and maybe a bit of finish if you go that route. Alternatively, you can go to your big box store and pick up cedar or pine fence pickets for $2-$3 and your investment is still minute when you can sell a nice set of coasters for $25-$50.
So with all that said, kick back and watch this selection of videos I’ve collected, later this week I will share my own video on making coasters and you can see how I’ve taken ideas from all over YouTube to create my own unique coasters to sell.
I could go on for days adding videos about making wooden coasters but I think this selection gives you a good idea on how to get started, what to use, how to make them, how to make holders, etc.. As I mentioned I’ll be posting my own build video on wooden coasters later this week and will most likely just add it to the top here and you can of course find it on YouTube once it’s posted.
If you find me on YouTube be sure to like, subscribe, and comment please. This not only helps me out in the rankings but it also keeps you in the loop because you really never know what sort of mischief I’ll be getting into when I’m left unsupervised.
